Identification of p-hydroxy-alpha-(methylaminomethyl) benzyl alcohol (synephrine) in human urine.

چکیده
During the development of an assay for the metanephrines (m 0 -methylepinephrine and m 0 -methylnorepinephrine) in human urine (I), another compound was detected which had similar chemical and chromatographic properties. Like the metanephrines, it was adsorbed onto a weak cation exchange resin, and upon treatment with periodate it yielded a product which absorbed ultraviolet light. The identification of the periodate cleavage product as p-hydroxybenzaldehyde suggested that the unknown base in urine was a derivative of p-hydroxyphenylethanolamine. Further studies by a variety of procedures have definitely established its identity as p-hydroxy-oc-(methylaminomethyl)benzyl alcohol (synephrine, Sympatol),

The Isolation and Identification of Wynephrine in the Leaves and Fruit of Citrus*
During a study of the relationship between trace element deficiencies and the free amino acids in citrus, an unknown basic nitrogen compound was detected in leaf extracts. In most samples there was more of the unknown constituent than of any other basic nitrogen compound. However, it was not present in leaf samples from trees with manganese deficiency. A comparison of its paper chromatographic ...
متن کاملA Comparison of Transmitter and Synephrine on Luminescence Induction in the Firefly Larva
Smalley (1965) demonstrated that the adult firefly lantern can be classified as adrenergic with respect to a number of criteria established for vertebrate sympathetic junctions. The lantern luminesces in response to adrenaline and its analogues. Amphetamine acts indirectly to induce luminescence and fails in denervated lanterns. Reserpinized lanterns respond to adrenaline, but no longer to neur...
متن کاملCytotoxic phenolic constituents of Acer tegmentosum maxim.
The chromatographic separation of the MeOH extract from the twigs of Acer tegmentosum led to the isolation of ten phenolic compounds. The structures of these compounds were determined using spectroscopic methods as 3,7,3',4'-tetramethyl-quercetin (1), 5,3'-dihydroxy-3,7,4'-trimethoxy flavone (2), 2,6-dimethoxy-p-hydroquinone (3), (-)-catechin (4), morin-3-O-alpha-L-lyxoside (5), p-hydroxy pheny...

Several hydroxamic acids, viz., N-benzyl-N'-hydroxysuccinamide (BHS), poly[alpha,beta-(N-hydroxy)-DL-aspartamide] (PHA), poly[alpha,beta-(N-hydroxy-N-methyl-DL-aspartamide)] (PMHA) and poly[alpha,beta-(N-hydroxy)-DL- aspartamide]/poly[alpha,beta-(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide] (PHA-PHEA 1:1) were prepared and screened for their antimicrobial activity. Ten Gram-positive and 7 Gram-negative sp...
متن کاملDiazotization of catecholamines and their analogs and metabolites for urinary screening tests: chemical aspects.
Coupling of diazotized p-nitroaniline to catecholamines and their metabolites in urine has been proposed for use in screening for secreting neuroblastoma in childhood. We have coupled diazotized p-nitroaniline to catecholamines, derivatives, and metabolites and examined the reaction products by thin-layer chromatography and physico-chemical methods (ultraviolet spectra, mass spectroscopy, nucle...
